Elena Edwards
Cello
Elena Edwards is a cellist from Marple currently studying at the Royal Northern College of Music with Edvard Pogossian. During her time at Chetham’s School of Music and for two years following, she was taught by Jennifer Langridge.
As a soloist, she has performed a number of recitals and played in masterclasses with cellists such as Sheku Kanneh-Mason and Richard Bamping. She has been fortunate to win both the Amy Lindley and Shirley Cattarall Awards for cello during her time at the RNCM.

Elena is also a keen chamber musician and cellist of the Juna String Quartet, one of the current RNCM ‘Studio Quartets’. They have won multiple awards during their studies and have performed several recitals, both within and outside of the UK. They are grateful to receive coaching from many inspirational chamber musicians such as Magnus Johnston, Marie Bitlloch, Martin Stupka and Donald Grant.
As an orchestral musician, she has performed alongside ensembles such as the Manchester Collective, Manchester Camerata and Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, and enjoyed leading cello sections in venues such as the Bridgewater Hall. Her interest in folk, jazz and improvisation has led her to share the stage with musicians such as Alice Zawadzki, Shirley Smart and Will Pound.
Passionate about the environment, Elena hopes to use music as a force for change and comfort as the climate crisis continues. She enjoys recording music she has composed at home, often with environmental themes.
